Madhes parties to launch joint stir

KATHMANDU, JUL 04 – In an indication of new unity, almost all the Madhes-based parties in the Constituent Assembly and outside agreed on Friday to launch a unified movement to press the ruling parties to incorporate their agendas in the new constitution.

In a meeting held at the Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party office, which was attended by top leaders of almost all the Tarai parties except Upendra Yadav, chairman of the newly unified Federal Samajbadi Forum Nepal, the leaders agreed to launch their Janajagaran Campaign soon. Yadav, who was in Pokhara, is said to have assured his party’s participation in the joint struggle.

Putting aside their differences, the parties that earlier broke away from the Madhesi Morcha, agreed to form the alliance again in order to press their agendas.

Lipulekh dispute: UCPN (M) writes to PM Koirala, Indian PM Modi & Chinese Prez Xi

Lawmakers demand Rs 50 million per constituency under CDP


KATHMANDU, JUL 09 – Cross-party lawmakers have pressed Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat to allocate Rs 50 million to each constituencies under Constituency Development Programme (CDP). The amount released under CDP would be spent under the supervision and choice of lawmakers .

The lawmakers have made such demand at a time when there are reports that budget allocated in the name of lawmakers in their electoral constituencies have been misused in several districts.

The government began to allocate Rs 10 million to each constituency through CDP from the last fiscal year. But the government has been providing some cash to lawmakers after the 1996 parliamentary election.

Writ filed at SC demanding right to willful death

KATHMANDU, JUL 09 – A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court , demanding it legalised the willful death.

Reasoning that the willful death would be better that the life in coma, advocates duo Uttam Prasad Rijal and Tankahari Dahal jointly filed the writ petition at the SC on Thursday. As the constitution has guaranteed citizens the rights to live dignified life, the citizens should be guaranteed the right to have willful death.

It is the human right to finish life rather than living in unconscious state for long and languishing life in pain, they argued.

In the writ, the advocates have made defendants to the Constituent Assembly and the Legislature-Parliament.

CNN investigates claims Sanjay Gupta misled viewers in Nepal report

UL 09 – CNN has launched an investigation into claims that one of its star correspondents misled viewers in a report showing his emergency medical intervention on an earthquake victim in Nepal.

Draft constitution brews new conflict: Chairman Yadav

July, Parsa : Chairman of the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, Upendra Yadav, has warned that the first draft of the new constitution brought against democratic norms would brew new conflict in the country.
