Quake-damaged house collapses, one dead

CHARIKOT, JUL 08 – A worker died when a house damaged by the earthquake collapsed in Dolakha district headquarters on Wednesday.

Worker Gopi Krishna Thami of Chyamawati-9 Suspa in the district died when the house came crashing down today. Another worker Man Bahadur Thami was injured in the incident.

Chief District Officer Devendra Lamichhane informed that five persons buried under the rubbles were rescued alive. “The house was alongside a busy road. We are searching the debris to look if anyone was trapped under it,” said Lamichhane.

Justices appointment my first priority: CJ Shrestha

KATHMANDU, JUL 08 – Supreme Court Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha assumed his office from today after taking oath of his office and secrecy.

Shrestha was administered oath by President Ram Baran Yadav amid a function at president’s office in Sheetal Niwas.

Talking to reporters after assuming office, Shrestha said that he will put the appointment of justices as his first priority to handle the growing number of cases. “The case files are piling up. But there are few justices to look into them. So my first priority will be to appoint judges to check the growing number of cases,” Shrestha said.

He also assured that the appointment of judges will be free from any political interference.
